It seems like everybody has aches and pains these days! I was a competitive dancer growing up, and those teenage years left me with 3 herniated discs. While surgery in my early 20s provided me with some relief, I always deal with some level of back pain. When I started getting serious about removing toxic products from my life, I realized that truly non-toxic products for pain relief pretty much did not exist! There are certainly other arnica creams and balms out there, but I had a very hard time finding any without seed oils. It also occurred to me that it made sense to address inflammation. I am a naturopathy geek, so I know that turmeric and ginger are both powerful for inflammation when taken orally. Why not look for those ingredients in pain salve? I found no such combination on the market, so I got into my kitchen and made it myself! I used grass-fed beef tallow as my base, and infused my own arnica oil using organic arnica flowers in organic avocado oil. I went ahead and doubled the amount of flowers the recipe I looked up called for. I added organic turmeric and ginger powder for inflammation, and voila! I was pleasantly surprised that something I whipped up in my own kitchen helped me so much with the constant pain. It is my hope that it will help you with yours too!
